#StayHome Skincare
Just like that, we all seem to have a little more time for our skin. Whether you already have a tried and true skincare routine or are a skincare beginner, our Senior Spa Manager, Heather MacKay, has put together a list of must-dos and essential products to keep your skin healthy and rejuvenated from home!
Cleanser – Choose a gentle cleanser and use this both morning and night. Obviously you want to cleanse a night to remove any oil, debris and pollutants that have accumulated throughout the day that can clog your pores and increase aging plus, you do not want all that junk to rub off on your pillow. TIP: If you find yourself too tired to wash your face before bed, do it once you’re in the house for the night, or when you change into your comfies.

Toner – Toner is important, and to be used directly after your cleanser. Not only will remove any traces that may be left behind after cleansing, it will also lock in moisture and prepare your skins canvas to better receive the next steps. Most importantly, toner will rebalance the skin pH level. When we rinse our skin with water, our skins acid mantle turns into an alkaline state. We need our skin pH to be balanced to best receive all the active ingredients from our serum and our moisturizer. Those ingredients are most active when first applied to the skin. The longer exposed to oxygen, the less active they become so for best efficacy, we want to apply our serum to a pH balanced skin.

Serum – Reach for a serum designed to treat any skin care concerns you may have. Serums have a smaller molecular structure and can better penetrate the skin and they have a more corrective action that all the other steps. During the colder months, when our skin can become drier, reach for a serum with Hyaluronic acid. During the months where we experience more sun exposure, reach for a serum rich in antioxidants like a Vitamin C serum, to help brighten the skin and fight free radicals and environmental stressors.

Eye Cream – The skin around our eyes is thinner, more delicate and contains less oil glands to keep the cells moist and plump. The eye area is usually the first place to show the signs of ageing, it is also an area that shows the signs of stress. One sure fire way to preserve our youth is to treat the eyes. We should start with an eye cream in our twenties, although it is never to late to start. Introducing an eye cream at any age will improve the texture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles or puffiness and dark circles.

Moisturizer – Serums aren’t enough to use alone, as they penetrate to the lower layers, we also need a moisturizer to treat the surface, the part we see and feel. Finding the right formula is key, a formula rich enough to keep your skin moist all day, but not too heavy to create shine or a greasy feeling. Here in Ontario, we generally need to switch our moisturizer up with the seasons due to the varying weather conditions that affect our skins needs. Remember, hydrated skin is happy skin and dry skin ages faster, so it is important to keep our skin moist and healthy looking.

Sunscreen – Your SPF is your best friend when it comes to slowing down the aging process, sun exposure is the #1 cause of aging. Tip: if you want to save time or skip a step, try using a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. Try Jane Iredale Dream Tint for a sheer look or Jane Iredale Glow Time Mineral BB Cream for full coverage , or use a mineral powder with SPF as your foundation. You will need to use something stronger when spending a lot of time outdoors, but these are enough for your day to day from the house to the car to the office type of activity.
